What a delight it is to send my best wishes to the City of Logan community on Christmas Day, 2020.
We have almost made it through this toughest of years, and we have done it together.
Thank you all for your efforts over the past year in keeping our community safe and healthy.
In staying united, we have also kept our region strong, thriving and connected.
Christmas and other religious days at this time of the year are times to reflect and be grateful for our many blessings.
Despite this year’s hardships, we certainly have much to be thankful for in the City of Logan.
While we celebrate the holidays in our own special ways, we must also acknowledge that for many in our community, social and financial challenges are a daily reality.
I urge you to spare a thought, some time or perhaps even some loose change for those doing it tough at this time.
There are many ways to get involved in charitable causes across our city, whether it is volunteering to support the elderly or the homeless, or donating gifts.
Sometimes, it’s simply about being kind.
You can say thank you to the person working the check-out, give a smile to your local library assistant, or even be patient in shopping queues. It is the little things that can make a world of difference.
Among the most important of behaviours at this time of year is also being conscientious, safe and considerate to others on our roads.
We are all in a hurry at this time of year, but it is more important to arrive at our destinations safely, rather than risking not arriving at all.
Please take care of one another, check in on your neighbours, and spread the joy of the season in a year when it is desperately needed.
I hope as you celebrate this year, you are reminded of just what a beautiful and caring place we live in.
On behalf of Council staff, and my fellow Councillors, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and Happy New Year.
Darren Power
Mayor of Logan
