Businesses destroyed in Logan City shopping centre fire

A major fire has ripped through a Logan City shopping centre during the night and a number of businesses have been gutted.

A hairdressers, chemist and a bakery have been lost in the fire at the Windaroo complex.

Firefighters were called to the shopping centre on Carl Heck Boulevard just after 10.30 last night but were unable to save those shops.

Paramedics were also sent to the fire but there were no reports of injuries.

It took fire crews almost three hours to extinguish the blaze as they battled a collapsing roof and walls.

The fire blanketed nearby streets in smoke.

The fire filled the night sky with smoke.

Road closures are expected to remain in place and motorists have been asked to stay away from the site.

Residents and those with respiratory conditions have also been asked to keep doors and windows closed.

The last fire at the shopping centre was less than two years ago.
