Locals across the Darling Downs and border region are being encouraged to prepare for cold weather and the potential for snow later this week.
Stanthorpe and Dalby are just two of the many communities that are set to experience a winter wonderland in the coming days.
Forecasters say the region is expecting to experience its coldest temperatures in a decade.
From Thursday, a burst of cold air is expected to enter southern Queensland.
Originally, just sleet was expected, but fresh modelling suggests it could get colder than expected, thanks to a burst of cold air from the south.
The cold snap is expected to last a few days, with southerly winds through to the weekend.
