Police step up border patrols

Police have increased their patrols of the border,  now that all of Sydney has been declared a covid hotspot by Queensland Health.

The New South Wales Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour are included on the hotspots list..

Residents in these areas are now being denied entry into the Sunshine State.

Senior Sergeant Ken Murray from Beaudesert police says officers are out in force 

“A lot of extra effort’s going into our border towards Rathdowney and Lions Road.

“We’re intercepting vehicles,  particularly from interstate from New South Wales.

“Definitely people who are coming from hot-spots who need to quarantine so we’ll be intercepting vehicles and making sure people… are quarantining correctly and making those border declarations as requested”.

The new rules came into effect at 1:00 this-morning.   The latest information can be found on the Government’s website.
