The Aussie rules football community is mourning the death of  well respected former Logan athlete Jake Ryan.

The 39 year old was killed earlier this week while holidaying with friends in Europe.

“Football was his passion” according to his former coach Dave Sloan.   “He was a determined bloke – he’d have a genuine crack at everything he’d have a go at”.

“He was honest with his comments. He always got his point across, without offending anyone”.

Jake played for the South East Suns at Logan in 2015.   Other tributes have highlighted his time with the Logan Cobras.

He also captained Surfers Paradise in the QAFL.

The former Gold Coast Suns academy coach survived the 2002 Bali bombings.

It’s understood,  Ryan was out jogging this week in Italy when he was hit by a train,

On facebook,  The Southport Sharks posted “We are deeply saddened to hear that Jake Ryan has passed away,”

A memorial service is expected to be held next week at the Surfers Paradise Demons clubhouse.
