The Scenic Rim Regional Council and Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce are at odds over the town’s central water fountain.
Currently, the fountain is turned off and the chamber wants it back on, but council says there are good reasons for not doing so.
“Council is in ongoing correspondence with the Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce about this matter,” said a Council spokesperson.
“Under Urban Utilities medium level water restrictions currently in place, filling and topping up of fountains can occur at any time using an attended hose or bucket. Council is not resourced to consistently monitor and fill the fountain within the scope of the restrictions.
“It should be noted that Council will be installing the Christmas tree on the fountain cover in November and this will remain in place until early January 2021. The fountain will not be in a position to be operational before this time.
“The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast increased rain for this summer season and Council will ensure the fountain is reinstated as soon as water restrictions permit.”
