Carnival of Flowers underway in Toowoomba

Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers is now underway and it’s longer than ever before.

It follows last year’s 10-day outdoor event which generated 11-million dollars for the local economy and 200-thousand visitors to the region.

This year the carnival’s been extended from ten days to a 30 and Councillor James O’Shea says visitors will be expected to adhere to COVID-19 rules.

Taking centre stage throughout September will be 190,000  flowers that have filled  Toowoomba’s parks and public spaces.

New to the program this weekend is High Cheese at Spring Bluff, held in partnership with Lockyer Valley Regional Council and hosted by famed chef and local produce champion, Alastair McLeod.

This is expected to be an extraordinary experience, given its happening at the heritage-listed station that boasts 150 years of railway history and magnificent gardens.

Also new is Cinema Under the Stars, a free community event in the leafy lawns of the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery, with a line-up of classic movies featured.

The Festival of Food and Wine returns to Queens Park the following weekend and it will celebrate the best in regional produce and Australian music.

Ánd on Saturday, September 18, the Grand Central Floral Parade also returns with a much earlier starting time of 10am to allow crowds to enjoy a full day of shopping, and sightseeing.

Councillor O’Shea says some parts of Toowoomba’s Central Business District will be closed to traffic so the parade can take place.
