Yesterday (Monday April 12), Logan City Council held a closed ‘special meeting’ at it’s council chambers to discuss the city’s budget, and according to a publicly available council document this involved how to spend a funding allocation of over $8 million.

According to the publicly available council document, this ‘special meeting’ was at 11am on Monday.

“The intention of the Special Local Government Meeting will be to discuss the following business: To discuss matters pertaining to grant submissions which will be considered in a closed session as it relates to Council’s budget,” the document read.

More specifically the ‘Confidential Report – 2021-24 South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program’ was discussed at the ‘special meeting’.

According to the council document, the purpose of this report is for council to ‘endorse project(s) to be submitted for funding’.

“This program consists of two funding components: an allocative funding component of which Council has been allocated $8,020,000 and a competitive funding component for which Council is eligible to submit projects,” it read.

Essentially, Logan City Council met behind closed doors (as per legal requirements) to discuss how it would be spending over $8 million of funding from the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program as per grant submissions from the local community.

It has also been confirmed by a member of staff that the meeting ran late on the day.
