Logan Hospital under new Covid restrictions

  • Rod Stephen is a former television journalist and has worked as Foreign Editor for the Seven Network, Australian Bureau Chief for TV3 New Zealand, UK correspondent for Seven and ABC radio and as a producer for Reuters TV in London as well as SBS in Sydney and Melbourne before returning to Brisbane to work at 4BC.

Logan Hospital has imposed new restrictions on the number of people who can visit the hospital in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.

It comes after a female doctor from the Princess Alexandra Hospital contracted the virus last week.

The restrictions mean you can only visit someone in hospital if you are:

  • the parent, guardian or carer for a patient under the age of 18
  • visiting a patient who is at their end of life
  • a partner and/or support person for a patient admitted for care related to their pregnancy
  • support worker or informal carer (including family and friends) providing support for someone with a disability.

All other patient visitors must receive approval from the operator of a hospital.

The operator of a hospital may be the Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director or equivalent of the hospital.

Approval will only be given when the operator of the hospital believes it is necessary for the patient to have visitors for emergency or other compassionate grounds.

Staff or volunteers who worked at the Princess Alexandra Hospital between March 10 at 2.30pm and March 11 should not be working at any other facilities, including Children’s Health Queensland, until further notice.

Queensland Health is expected to review the new rules tomorrow.
