A new COVID testing clinic has been opened on Logan City’s northern outskirts.
The Eight Mile Plains community health centre is now open for testing 24 hours a day. No bookings are needed and no GP referrals are required.
It follows the discovery that a Brisbane hotel cleaner had contracted the new and more easily transmissible strain of coronavirus that originated in the UK.
The woman’s close contacts are being tested and alerts have been issued for certain locations across Algester, Sunnybank Hills and Calamvale.
She also travelled on a train from Altandi station to Roma Street.
It’s believed she had been in the community while infectious since January 2. A list of locations is available on the Queensland Health website.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said it’s believed the woman contracted COVID-19 while working in the hotel.
“We’re not aware that that person has been interstate,” Ms D’Ath said.
“The likelihood is this person has got it from the hotel, but we are doing sequencing.”
Queensland Health advises anyone who is feeling sick to stay home and to get tested if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild.
