45-minute torture attack hospitalises Gold Coast woman

A 45-minute torture attack on a 34-year-old woman has resulted in four serious charges each against two Surfers Paradise men, highlighting the severity of violence on Queensland's Gold Coast.

The woman was assaulted early Friday morning inside a unit on Trickett Street in Surfers Paradise, in the heart of the beachside suburb. Police allege that during the sustained attack, she was struck repeatedly with a hammer, slashed with a knife on her legs, and had portions of her hair cut off with a multi-tool. The attack left her with significant injuries including a large laceration to one leg and head injuries.

Critically, the woman was able to escape the unit and reach a nearby hotel where she raised the alarm. This quick action likely prevented further harm and enabled swift police response. She was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital where she was admitted in stable condition—a positive indicator that, while injured, the wounds were not immediately life-threatening.

Police arrested two men at a nearby unit complex in connection with the assault. The accused are a 36-year-old from Mareeba and a 40-year-old from Surfers Paradise. Both men were known to the victim, a factor that compounds the severity of the case by introducing elements of breach of trust.

Each man has been charged with one count each of torture, wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty. The four charges per suspect represent a comprehensive legal response to the alleged violence.

The torture charges are particularly significant in Queensland's criminal framework. Torture allegations indicate that prosecutors believe the accused deliberately inflicted severe pain and suffering over an extended and deliberate period. This distinguishes the charges from simpler assault offences and reflects the sustained nature of the 45-minute attack.
