Two Men Charged Over Brutal Gold Coast Apartment Attack

A 34-year-old Gold Coast woman has been left seriously injured after suffering a prolonged assault by two men she knew, with the brutal attack unfolding over 45 minutes inside a Surfers Paradise apartment.

The assault occurred early on Friday morning in a unit on Trickett Street, in the heart of Surfers Paradise. What occurred inside was a sustained and vicious attack involving multiple weapons and deliberate methods of harm.

According to Queensland Police, the two men beat the woman repeatedly with a hammer, slashed her legs with a knife and cut her hair off using a multi-tool. The 45-minute duration of the attack is particularly significant – it points to a deliberate and prolonged assault designed to cause maximum harm, rather than a momentary altercation.

"It will be alleged the men, who were known to the woman, assaulted her at the Trickett Street unit with a hammer, cut her leg with a knife and cut her hair with a multi-tool over a 45-minute period," Queensland Police said in a detailed statement of the allegations.

Despite the severity of what she was enduring, the victim managed to break free from her attackers. She escaped the apartment and fled to a nearby hotel, where she immediately raised the alarm by alerting staff to what had occurred. This quick-thinking decision would set in motion the police response that followed.

Emergency services were contacted immediately. Police responded to the scene swiftly, and when officers arrived at the hotel where the woman had sought refuge, the extent of her injuries became apparent. She had sustained a large laceration to her leg and injuries to her head consistent with repeated blows. Despite the trauma she had endured, medical assessment determined her condition to be stable.

She was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment of her injuries and further medical observation as she began her recovery.

While the victim received medical care, police initiated their investigation into the assault. Officers worked to locate and apprehend the two men alleged to be responsible for the attack. Both were arrested at a nearby unit complex on Trickett Street within hours of the incident.

The 36-year-old from Mareeba and the 40-year-old from Surfers Paradise were charged with torture, wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty – serious charges that reflect the gravity of the allegations. Both men appeared before Southport Magistrates Court, where initial proceedings took place.

The case now moves through the court system as the allegations are tested and justice is pursued. The victim's bravery in escaping and reporting the assault has been instrumental in enabling authorities to apprehend the accused and commence legal proceedings.
