Two men charged with torture after 45-minute Gold Coast assault

A 45-minute assault with hammer and knife has resulted in torture charges for two Gold Coast men after a woman they knew managed to escape an attack in Surfers Paradise and reach safety early on Friday.

The 34-year-old victim sustained a large laceration to her leg and head injuries during the violent incident at a Trickett Street unit complex. She escaped to a nearby hotel where staff alerted emergency services, leading to her transport to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable condition.

Queensland Police arrested both suspects at the unit complex: a 36-year-old from Mareeba and a 40-year-old from Surfers Paradise. Each has been charged with one count each of torture, wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm, and deprivation of liberty.

Police said the men used multiple weapons throughout the attack. The woman was beaten with a hammer, cut on the legs with a knife, and had her hair cut with a multi-tool—all over the documented 45-minute assault period.

The severity of charges reflects both the duration and methods involved. Torture charges are among Queensland's most serious assault-related offences and typically apply to cases involving sustained violence and deliberate infliction of severe suffering.
