Panic sets in

Despite requests from authorities NOT to panic buy, the exact opposite has occurred.

Supermarket shelves are already running out of paper product, while the line up for the checkout is so bad, store workers can’t keep up with the flow of foot traffic.

One shopper, known only as “Jackie” told My News Feed she’d been lined up to buy her groceries for an hour and was still nowhere near the front of the line up.

The panic buying set in after the announcement of a snap lockdown for Logan City and the Scenic Rim as part of the 11 Local Government Areas that are incorporated into the South East Queensland region, impacted by the most recent covid 19 scare.

As reported earlier by My News Feed,  the snap lockdown will kick in at 4pm Saturday.

For many, it’s too late to go to the store with lengthening delays at the checkout and stock running low as the day progresses.

Masks will be mandatory outside the home, all non-essential retail will close and a 10 kilometre travel limit will apply.

Pubs, clubs and restaurants will only be allowed to serve take-away.

The announcement caused confusion at local shopping centres which only found out about the lockdown from shoppers.

It also caused tempers to flare at some outlets as stocks on supermarket shelves started to dwindle and long lines quickly began forming at various checkouts.

The decision has not only impacted local family weekend commitments but also caused local sport to be cancelled,  including the big games involving the NRL and the AFL.
