WARNING: Flash flooding for Logan City

QFES media has confirmed heavy rain is continuing to fall in Logan City, and has issued a flash flooding warning for the area – particularly Beenleigh.

“Heavy rain is continuing to fall and the Bureau of Meteorology is warning people in Logan and Scenic Rim that flash flooding may occur,” the media spokesperson said.

“You know the drill: if it’s flooded, forget it!”

The Bureau of Meteorology Queensland also confirmed flash flooding in Beenleigh.

“113mm in the hour to 1:15pm was recorded at Hotham Creek, south of Beenleigh.”

The Bureau of Meteorology also warns that, at 2:20 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Wacol, Archerfield and Tamborine.

These thunderstorms are slow moving. They are forecast to affect Jimboomba and Sunnybank Hills by 2:50 pm and Woodridge and Lake Manchester by 3:20 pm.

Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding is likely.

Mount Tamborine recorded 98mm in under 2 hours to 2:15pm.

Forest Lake recorded 59mm in 1 hour to 1:45pm.

Bonogin recorded 82mm in 1 hour to 11:40am and 136mm in 2 hours to 12:40pm.

Mount Nathan recorded 105mm in 1 hour (storm spotter report) earlier today.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 3:30 pm.
