What you should know about road safety

A new survey has revealed that while the majority of Australian drivers will be going on domestic road trips this year, many key safety checks remain under 50 per cent.

The JAX Tyres & Auto Road Safety Report  was compiled after interviews with 1,032 Australian drivers last month.

The owner of the company’s franchise at Slacks Creek, James Sullivan, has said drivers should check the wear of their tyres once a year.

“The average person covers 10 thousand kilometres in six months, thereabouts. So, if you’re in a tyre maintenance program where they do have their tyres rotated it can be information given there or your premium dealerships such as Audi, Mercedes or BMW – they look at they are committed to you to give you advice to cover the next 15 thousand kilometres”.

Mr Sullivan adds that the depth of the tread remaining on a vehicle’s tyres will indicate how much life is left in them.

” In suburbia we have a lot more roundabouts, so, that front left tyre is the hardest wearing on the car in terms of how it wears and there are a lot more front wheel drive cars our there now as well”.

Mr Sullivan believes modern day drivers need to be better educated about how to look after their vehicles and not to just rely on electronic warning signals from their vehicles.

“If you had a motoring group like RACQ  – I’m sure if they taught – had a class at night to teach people the basics of maintaining a car it would be beneficial, because I don’t think it’s passed down by parents”.

Trust, expertise and thoroughness in a mechanical service provider plays a huge role in setting drivers’ minds at ease.

Almost three in ten  choose their mechanic service provider based on whether they conduct a full, in-depth vehicle inspection with every service, while over one in five drivers say a recent service at a garage gives them the most peace of mind while driving.

In a recent analysis of vehicles inspected by JAX Tyres & Auto teams across the country, almost seven in ten vehicles had some kind of issue that required expert attention.

Of these, 93% of the identified issues were classified as needing to be urgently addressed and 7% were non-urgent only. Out of the entire sample, almost two thirds required immediate repairs, while 17%  could afford to hold off taking action.

As a result of conducting a visual JAX Vehicle Inspection, over half (52%) of the vehicles with some issue have taken action, which was mainly driven by 51% of vehicles requiring immediate attention and 27% of cases where longer lead action items were found.

James Sullivan has said you should get your car checked out before taking any long road trip.

“If you want to get there safe and sound it’s not going to cost people anything to get your car checked”

JAX Tyres & Auto is offering free safety checks through its JAX Vehicle Inspection service at 83 Moss St, Slacks Creek.
