‘Women are a lot stronger than they believe’

According to Logan City local and president of the Logan Regional Chamber of Commerce Chyerl Pridham, International Women’s Day is ‘a celebration of all women’s achievements – past, present and future.’

“Women are a lot stronger than they believe they are,” Mrs Pridham said.

“Sometimes everyday life makes you believe you can not make a difference or achieve something great but this is when we need to celebrate the small wins as they eventually make a difference.

“I will be celebrating at the Logan Village Community Centre at their Morning Tea Event. I would normally celebrate with the ladies of Jimboomba Quota, but this year I have decided to go to an event closer to home in my immediate community.”

Mrs Pridham said it’s important to have women in leadership positions because ‘we all need role models’.

“A long time ago in my early 20’s, I was told that I would not get a pay rise or progress in a particular company I worked for, as I was just going to get pregnant and leave,” Mrs Pridham said.

“So they did not want to waste any money on me training me for something I would never do.

“Funnily enough 6 months later I took a job double the income for an international company and have never looked back.”

Mrs Pridham said the best piece of advice she received from another woman was to ‘be true to who you are’.

“There are a lot of wonderful people in Logan – although it is not always portrayed that way,” she said.

“Follow your bliss and find something that you love to do.

“I love to educate, that’s why I am involved with so many groups – to share my knowledge.”
