One more sleep until Logan City’s Santa Run

The big man in red will be making his way through Logan City to hand out lollies and presents, all while spreading Christmas cheer, tomorrow on Christmas Day.

Woodridge Fire and Rescue Services senior firefighter Scott Edwards is the brains behind the operation, and has organised for Santa to visit two years in a row now.

Mr Edwards said he came up with the idea last year, as a way to give back to the local community over the holidays.

“I’ve been working here at the station for about ten years now,” Mr Edwards said.

“Last year I was rostered on Christmas day and I just thought well let’s do something.

“I was talking to my other colleagues who were on that day and said well how about if we get a truck, get the man in red to turn up, and go through the streets of Logan.

“Then all of a sudden it went from just one truck to getting all of the different emergency services in Logan on board.”

Mr Edwards said he was blown away by how quickly his idea grew, and how the local community rallied behind the cause.

“For me it’s really about giving back and just giving some joy to the locals,” he said.

“We go down 40 or so odd streets and a lot of those are actually streets we’ve visited this year on jobs.

“It makes the kids and families happy and it’s good for us to be able to get out into the community when it isn’t for an emergency.”

This year Santa will be leaving the fire station at 9am, making stops along the way, and aiming to visit the children’s hospital at around 11am to 11:30am.

“My goal for the year was to double the amount of presents we had donated from last year,” Mr Edwards said.

“Last year we had a round 300…one trailer load…to give out at the community centre and the children’s hospital.

“This year we have two trailers and more…thanks to the donations from Logan locals and Logan businesses.

“We’d love to see as many smiling faces as possible on Christmas morning.

“It’s the best feeling.

“Seeing all the joy you can bring to someone through such a simple act.”
