In September and October this year Logan City locals took part in a community engagement survey regarding the Loganlea Station relocation, and it has been revealed locals are prioritising accessibility, safety, and parking.
Loganlea Station is an important transport hub that helps the Logan City community connect to other parts of South East Queensland.
The Australian Government and Queensland Government are exploring ways to relocate and improve the Loganlea Station and Park ‘n’ Ride facility to ensure it can accommodate future growth and deliver the most benefit to Logan City locals.

The Gold Coast and Beenleigh rail lines form a crucial part of the Brisbane to Gold Coast transport corridor and play a vital role in supporting the economic viability of the region.
Preliminary planning has identified that rail infrastructure upgrades are required on the Brisbane to Gold Coast rail corridor, particularly between Kuraby and Beenleigh, to meet future passenger demand.
Master planning for the area has also identified the station relocation as a key enabler for improving integration with surrounding land uses such as Logan Hospital, Loganlea TAFE, and Loganlea State High School.
The new station will offer a range of benefits, including:
- improved connections to key services such as Logan Hospital and Loganlea TAFE
- improved pedestrian and cycling access
- improved accessibility for people with a disability
- enhanced station amenity
- improved bus connectivity
- improved active transport connections
- new cycle facilities
- enhanced park ‘n’ ride facilities
- new, contemporary station design.
Early engagement started back in December 2019. Community consultation was then conducted September – October 2020.
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads spoke with the following as part of the community consultation process:
- Broader community
- Logan City Council
- Government agencies
- Queensland Rail
- Loganlea State High School
- Logan Hospital
- TAFE Loganlea
- Griffith University
- Local residents
- Disability groups
- Active transport groups
- Local transport providers
- Customers
Using the following communication methods:
- 14 meetings/briefings
- Three workshops
- 55 community surveys
- 54 Ideas Wall comments
- 3,200 letterbox drops
- Eight emails
- 18 phone calls
The department found from their community consultation that 84% of participants actually catch the train Loganlea Station, 76% catch the train to work, 49% drive to the train station, and 78% would use a new footbridge at the relocation station to cross the rail corridor.
Feedback from the community identified a range of priorities, which were included in a publicly available government document which can be found here.
Accessibility and connectivity
“Accessibility to the station, between platforms and connectivity to local facilities is key to people’s ability to reach jobs, services and activities. Accessibility and mobility for all users of the station is critical. Feedback focused on the provision of ramps and lifts in addition to stairs; improving the movement between platforms; vision and hearing aids; and wider paths to connect the station to Logan Hospital, TAFE and Loganlea State High School,” the document read.
Security and safety
“Safety is critical to users of the current Loganlea Station and the communities of Loganlea and Meadowbrook. Several key areas were raised to improve people’s safety when using Loganlea Station, and when travelling between the station, the Park ‘n’ Ride and nearby facilities. Feedback considered the prevention of loitering; additional security staff at the station during operational hours; visibility in and out of the station; more lighting at the station, on pathways and at the Park ‘n’ Ride; and the proximity of the Park ‘n’ Ride to the station,” the document read.
Parking
“Adequate parking is key to enabling convenient customer access to the station and encouraging public transport use. Increasing the number of parks available at the Park ‘n’ Ride was a common theme, as well as preventing non-customers from using the car park,” the document read.
Detailed planning for the station relocation is currently underway.
