Councillor Jon Raven took a stand against Logan City Council at its monthly meeting on Friday, for delaying projects he had hoped to deliver by now, saying he had $300,000 worth of projects the Council was blocking him from delivering.
“I listen to other councillors talking about their amazing projects being delivered and I would love to deliver some projects for my community,” Cr Raven said.
“In fact my residents ask me ‘what’s happening in Division 5? Where’s the money being spent?’
“I’ve got about $300,000 of local infrastructure projects that are sitting behind red tape.”
Cr Raven said he wanted action.
“What I would like Mr acting CEO is that by the time we come back to the next round of committee that the consultation problem we have, where we can’t send letters to our residents because for some reason consultation must be done by council officers not by councillors, is resolved.
“I don’t want any more excuses. I don’t want any more reasons. I don’t want to wait two weeks for a draft letter to be put out.
“My understanding from talking to staff is that the main issue is actually a back of house problem. A document access problem. Staff are concerned if councillors are the ones doing the consultation they may not be able to access the documents.”
Cr Raven said he doesn’t care how it gets sorted out.
“It’s been long enough. I’ve been waiting five months to ask if I can put some speed bumps into Marsden,” he said.
“I’ve been waiting three months to see if I can put some footpaths into Crestmead.
“I want to deliver.
“They’re (community members) getting angry and that’s why I’m frustrated. Because if my community is telling me I’m doing a bad job and it’s because the organisation is holding back my capacity to perform then I expect you (Logan City Council – acting CEO) to do something about it.”
