UPDATED: warnings follow new Covid scare

  • Scott Mayman is an award-winning radio presenter and journalist who has worked professionally in both Australia and in the United States and is also a Correspondent for CBS News Radio in New York.

If you’re feeling unwell,  you are being encouraged to stay at home and get tested.

That’s the message from Queensland Health following a new Covid-19 alert for the Greater Brisbane area.

While the Greater Brisbane area includes Logan City,  Logan Hospital is not involved in any new restrictions being imposed on Brisbane and Moreton Bay region hospital facilities.

A new locally transmitted case of COVID-19 has been detected in north Brisbane.

A man in his 20’s has tested positive.   Contact Tracing is underway with several locations under the microscope from outlets the man attended last Friday and Saturday,  including the Carindale Shopping Centre when the man visited several stores.

It’s understood,  the man did the right thing after becoming unwell on Monday and self-isolated at home.  He was tested on Thursday which came back positive.   The man has now been admitted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for observation.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said immediate action was being taken.

“Aged care, hospitals, prisons, people caring for people with a disability will be closed to visitors but this will be confined to the Brisbane City Council areas and to Moreton,” she said.

Logan Hospital currently is exempt from any new restrictions,  however,  a health directive has been sent to hospitals  directing staff to wear masks.
