Logan City Mayor Darren Power says when he’s not spending time at Council, with his family, or at the gym, you can find him landscaping at home.
“Landscaping has always been something I’ve been interested in,” Mayor Power said.
“I’ve got landscaping features at the front of the house, down the driveway, and around the garage. But most of my effort is put into the parkland at the back.
“I like to relax at my place and to make something out of it which is why I really enjoy maintaining the space.
“I probably spend at least six hours every weekend mowing the lawns, looking after everything, making sure everything looks green and good.”
Mayor Power said he really enjoys spending time in the garden/outdoors area and especially finds the ride on mower therapeutic.

“It’s just relaxing at the end of the day to be outside in and watch the swallows come and hit the water at about 5pm. There’s always lots of birds and wildlife in the area which is partly why I like to keep it looking nice,” he said.
“I find it really relaxing being on the mower too.
“Lately it’s been getting a bit too much for and with being mayor I don’t always have as much time to spend outdoors as I’d like too. But I really do make an effort to get outside, we’re not meant to spend our lives locked up in concrete all day.”
Mayor Power said he loves landscaping and gardening so much, that he even created a Facebook group for Logan City locals to share their love for the hobby.
“It’s called Show Us Your Garden – Logan City and I created it as a bit of a community where locals can share their gardens and ask each other for advice,” he said.
“It’s really taken off and has nearly 500 members.
“It’s kind of taken over my news feed which I love.
“I try to stay pretty active on there and comment and share as much as possible.”
