Queensland’s peak tourism body is confident the state’s south east will be chosen to host the 2032 Olympics.
International Olympic Committee officials have named Brisbane as the preferred candidate to host the global sporting event.
It would inject more than 20 billion dollars into the state’s economy..
The response has been wide-ranging.
Logan City Council spent Thursday in meetings, looking at the various benefits that could be brought to the region.

Joint Chairs of the Federal Parliamentary Friends of the Olympic Movement in Australia, Bert van
Manen, (MP for Forde) and Graham Perrett, (MP for Moreton) hailed the announcement by
the international Olympic Committee (IOC) that South East Queensland has moved to ‘Targeted
Dialogue’ stage for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.

“This is the only bid with this status, and it represents the final phase of the bidding process before a host city is announced”.
Mr van Manen also said, ‘As Co-chair of the Federal Parliamentary Friends of the Olympic Movement in
Australia, it has been my privilege to lobby the Government to support this bid.
“One of the compelling factors in our candidature is the unwavering joint commitment of all three levels of
government to bring the Games to Australia. I commend my fellow Queensland representatives at
State and Council level for their work in getting our bid to this point.’
