The Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce held its 25th annual Prawn Day, and president Kerrie Saverin said it was an ‘amazing success’ with over 500 Logan City locals gathered to network and eat their way through 500 kilograms of prawns.
The event was held on Friday March 12 at Gold Coast Tiger Prawns, and 530 Logan City locals attended.
“Oh my god we did it Prawn Day 2021 an absolute amazing success,” Ms Saverin said.
“It would not have happened without these amazing people.
“Michael Matthews seriously your expertise and ability to deal with any last minute changes is just phenomenal the food was amazing and the service on point, thank you.
“Raymondo Leon always there to help set up, follow up, take photos and give me a hug when I look like I’m losing it. Thank you
“Lyndall Appleby I can always count on you for those extra pair of hands on the day. The fact that you volunteer your time without any expectation and fit so well with the team is fantastic. Thank you.
“Heather Christensen what an amazing woman you are. I love that you just rock up and start doing. From packing show bags to checking up on me. Thank you.
“Hanzel Hizola for that extra muscle you deliver and just being ready to offer any kind of help that is needed and when it’s needed. Thank you.
“Leanne Taylor your support and help with everything has been amazing. From ticketing to seating plan to show bags. Those calls of me panicking that things won’t get done will probably slow down now. Thank you.
“TJ Ebby your dedication and commitment to just getting stuff done never ceases to amaze me. Congratulations on your well deserved induction into the Prawn Day Life Member. Thank you.
“Mark Ellis hmmm what do I say…. If people only knew the hard work you put in to make prawn day the best day of the year. From picking up marquees to dropping cold rooms the day after and for sacrificing time with your friends and family to MC the day. Thank you.
“Shane Drew for always having our promotional poster ready with constant changes and just simply jumping into action with anything else we may need. Your hard work to getting it all done for us is so appreciated. Thank you.”
At Prawn Day 2021 a huge amount of seafood was consumed. According to Ms Saverin the numbers were:
- Bugs – 250 Kilo’s
- Oysters – 335 Dozen
- Salmon – 35 Kilo’s
- Prawns – 500 Kilo’s
Seafood and drinks were served on the day from staff from the Beenleigh Event Centre, Logan Entertainment Centre, and Windaroo Valley State High School Trade Training Centre students.
The hospitality team worked hard, with the school saying it was ‘valuable experience’ and students were invited by staff to forward their resumes on to the local centres to be considered for casual work.
