Two Logan City women sentenced over failed border pass

  • Scott Mayman is an award-winning radio presenter and journalist who has worked professionally in both Australia and in the United States and is also a Correspondent for CBS News Radio in New York.

The Logan City women,  who last year were accused of lying on a border declaration form to avoid quarantine after visiting Melbourne – have been sentenced to community service after facing court.

Haja Umu Timbo and Diana Lasu, both 21, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Magistrates Court for failing to comply with a public health direction was sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid community service.

Lasu triggered a health emergency  when she tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from Melbourne.

She visited schools, restaurants and a medical centre while sick.

No convictions were recorded against either woman.
A third woman is due to face court next month.
The pair is still under the microscope in New South Wales.

It was revealed earlier this year,  the two women have been charged with similar offences in relation to their trip through Sydney Airport on their way home.

They’ve yet to appear in court in Sydney
