Tips for Logan City locals spending Easter at home

  • Jessica Arellano is a news and feature journalist from the Gold Coast. She has many years experience working within the media industry both in Australia and abroad.

With the recent lockdown many Logan City locals cancelled their Easter holiday plans.

But, now with the lockdown over, local families are looking for ways to celebrate their Easter weekend at home or within the local area.

If you’re searching for ideas, we’ve gathered a handful of activities and local spots to visit for a fun-filled Easter weekend at home or out and about in Logan City, for you and your family.

At home:

  • Cupcake cake decorating kits. Roceels in Beenleigh is offering locals an all-in-one cupcake decorating kit to get creative over the Easter weekend. It comes with four cupcakes as well as lollies to decorate. It’s $10.00 per kit for pickup, or the team can deliver locally for $15.00.
  • Easter Bonnets. Bring the Easter Bonnet parade home! Each family member can get crafty with this activity, just use an old hat and leftover craft pieces. If you want make a day of it, head down to Logan Central’s Dollars & Sense – open over Easter – for an array of crafts to keep ‘every-bunny’ entertained this Easter.
  • Egg and spoon race. If you’re after an enjoyable outdoor activity – and don’t mind making a bit of a mess – the traditional egg and spoon race, which dates back to the 1800’s, is great fun. All you need are eggs – hard boiled or raw – and a spoon!
  • Bunny bowling. Those plastic bowling pins are going to be reused. Simply redecorate the bowling pins with a pair of bunny ears and a cute bunny face, and instead of a bowling ball, have a go at knocking down the pins with easter eggs.
  • Easter egg painting. Originally a tradition from the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches, Easter egg painting is a great way to get kids creativity flowing. You can use either hard boiled eggs or blown-out eggs to paint onto, and dye or acrylic paint is best.

Out and about:

Logan locals are lucky enough to have a range of parks at their doorstep. So, pack your Easter lunch and a picnic blanket, then head to one of the many parks and playgrounds around our city.

  • The City of Logan has 942 beautiful parks to explore this Easter-long weekend, many with free barbecue and picnic facilities, and playgrounds, including Flagstone Adventure Playground near Jimboomba. The facility offers kids an immense adventure playground combined with a waterpark. From waterfalls and tipping buckets, to water cannons and a treehouse, this playground is one place kids will be entertained for hours. There is also a food and drink kiosk for parents, and toilet facilities close-by. Admission is free to the playground, and the opening hours are from 7:30am to 7:30pm every day.
  • If you prefer to take-away your lunch then make it, check out some of the numerous restaurants, cafes and clubs around the City of Logan, through the City of Logan Food Trail.
  • The Koala Centre in Daisy Hill is a great place to enjoy nature and have a unique wildlife experience. The recently refurbished centre has five resident koalas in a large outdoor enclosure. The centre also offers a range of educational displays on koalas and other threatened species, as well as an airconditioned Woodland Theatre. Beyond the koala centre, visitors can walk, mountain bike and horse ride through tall eucalypt forest and sun-dappled melaleuca wetlands. The Koala Centre is open from Monday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and is closed on Good Friday. Bookings are essential.
  • The Shark and Ray Gardens allows visitors a chance to wade into knee deep water and interact with sharks and rays. The cool marine experience is open over the Easter weekend but bookings are essential.
  • Bayside Wake Park, formally known as Cable Ski Logan, is a Wakeboard and Water Ski Park, perfect for a family day out. Visitors can experience an action packed wakeboarding adventure for first time visitors through to advanced riders. Opening hours are from 11am to 4pm over the Easter long weekend, with prices listed on their website.
