It’s the rare super blood moon to light up the night sky.

You may recall we reported on a similar event just last month.

Astronomer Doctor Brad Tucker says it’s caused by a combination of two events.

“Sometimes,  the moon is a bit closer to the Earth and when it’s a bit closer it looks a little bit bigger and it appears a little bit brighter.

“Now, that’s what we call a Super Moon.  But we really have the special “Blood” moon or lunar eclipse.

“Tonight the moon will be passing into the Earth’s shadow.  It’ll get darker and get a bit more red orange colour”.

Peak viewing time will be between 9:10pm and 9:25pm
