A shocking head-on crash between two four wheel drives in the Scenic Rim has left a mother dead and four other people seriously injured.
Two teenage girls from Yatala are now without their mum and are fighting for life in hospital after the crash which happened along a notorious stretch of Plunkett Road at Cedar Creek just after six oçlock last night.
Trapped in one of the vehicles was the 47 year old mum who tragically lost her life.
Her 15 and 17 year old daughters were airlifted to hospital in critical conditions and their dad is in a serious condition, while the 44 year old Yarrabilba man who was driving the other four wheel drive is also fighting for his life.
Multiple ambulance crews as well as the critical care unit and two helicopters were brought in to assist in the rescue.
Acting Inspector, Mark Proctor, says the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash but speed was a factor.
