COVID-19 infections have risen again in Logan and the Scenic Rim, as Queensland records 16 deaths overnight from the virus.
According to Queensland Health, 13,749 cases have been reported in Logan, an increase of 692 infections overnight, while the Scenic Rim has now reported 636 cases, an increase of 53 infections overnight.
While COVID-19 cases have risen again locally, the data indicates that the spread appears to be slowing down, as the latest outbreak approaches its predicted peak at the end of the month.
In the latest figures, Queensland reported 16 deaths in the past 24 hours, the highest daily death toll recorded in the state to date.
45 people have now died in Queensland from COVID-19, the majority of the deaths taking place in the latest outbreak.
It comes as Queensland Health changes the way it reports active cases.
The health authority has changed its definition of active cases to cases detected in the last seven days based on sample collection/test date.
Currently, there are 1,212 active cases in the Metro South Health region, while there are 86,561 active cases across Queensland.
Today, Queensland recorded 15,962 new COVID-19 cases, with 9,978 cases detected by PCR tests, while 5,984 cases were detected by Rapid Antigen Tests.
819 people are receiving hospital care for COVID-19, while 50 of those are receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit.
