Free parking is proving to be a rare commodity at Meadowbrook, following the introduction of parking fees at the nearby Logan Hospital.
The local parking issue has been compounded by Meadowbrook Shopping Centre management recently reducing the free parking limit at the privately-owned complex from three hours to two hours.
It is believed that management reduced the hours, in response to the number of train commuters and hospital workers who allegedly parked at the site.
Inspectors have recently been spotted at the shopping centre car park, handing out $77 fines to those flouting the free parking limit.
The availability and cost of parking has generated plenty of feedback from locals.
David Ryland says with paid parking at the hospital, it is a given that people will park elsewhere.
“Of course people will park for free and walk across the road.”
Melinda McCredie says the two hour parking limit at the shopping centre is not enough.
“How do you get a haircut or nails done and do some shopping in two hours?
“I understand the need to restrict it, but surely three hours would be a bit more reasonable
“There are lots of other options around to park for longer, but I feel bad for the retailers.”
The Meadowbrook Shopping Centre is located across the road from Logan Hospital.
