More and more Logan locals on struggle street

More and more Logan residents are struggling to meet their basic living expenses according to the latest research from the Salvation Army.

The research shows that 84 percent of those surveyed over the last year found it a challenge to meet basic living expenses, including housing, utilities, food and health care.

Captain Anthony Hunt from the Logan Corps of the The Salvation Army says he’s seeing thirty to forty people each week who need help.

Captain Hunt says he recently met one family who’ve been struggling to find a home to rent in Logan.

The research found that after paying for housing costs, 93 percent of respondents were living below the poverty line, with 75 percent saying that managing financial stress was one of their greatest challenges, 65 percent needing to ask for financial help from family and friends and 56 percent not being able to afford medical or dental treatment when they need it.

The Salvation Army is now calling on the Logan community to get involved in this year’s Red Shield Appeal to help the vulnerable.

The annual fundraising door knock will be held on the last weekend of this month.
