One of the most powerful advocates for reconciliation between Australia’s white population and indigenous Australians, Jackie Huggins AM, has spoken out about the importance of supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
Ms Huggins made the speech in front of dignitaries from many different cultural and linguistically different backgrounds at Queensland Parliament during the launch of National reconciliation week.
Her speech came just nine days after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese started the pendulum for change swinging by promising his government would support the treaty.
She’s urging everyone in Logan and the Scenic Rim to put their support behind the long needed agreement.
National Reconciliation Week is meant to be a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Midnight Oil wrote and produced the music for the Uluru Statement from the Heart video which was shown at the official launch.
The words are read by Pat Anderson, Stan Grant, Adam Goodes, Ursula Yovich and Troy Cassar-Daley.
