Higher and stronger bridge opens in North Maclean

Road safety has been boosted in North Maclean with the opening of a new bridge on Scott Lane.

The bridge is three metres higher than the previous crossing and has a wildlife corridor underneath.

It replaces an old drainage culvert.

The $6.2 million overhaul gives motorists a safer and more reliable crossing of the  creek by increasing flood immunity and reducing the frequency and duration of road  closures.

The project was jointly funded by Logan City Council and the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program and supported by Member for Wright Scott  Buchholz.

Infrastructure Committee Chair Councilor Teresa Lane says the upgrade was necessary to meet the needs of a growing local community.

“Motorists and residents wanted the culvert removed and replaced with a safer wet  weather option and we have done that with a raised bridge.”

“With the increasing popularity of North Maclean and surrounding suburbs it was  important that we took the time to develop a lasting solution to reducing the impact of  flooding.”

“I’d like to thank the Australian Government for working with the Council to fund this vital  piece of road infrastructure.”

Deputy Mayor and Division 11 Councilor, Natalie Willcocks has thanked residents for  their patience during the bridge construction.

“Time and time again residents have told me they want better roads in this division  and with this project we are delivering just that.”

“They can now enjoy a much safer and dependable road.”

“The wet weather has delayed the opening of the bridge but Council and the  contractor have worked tirelessly to ensure that the work was completed as soon as  possible.

“I’d like to thank residents for their patience during the construction phase.”

The concrete bridge was successfully lifted into position during a delicate, two-day crane operation in February.
