Police have confirmed a 21 year old man from Kingston, who was arrested at the scene of a house fire, has faced the Beenleigh Magistrates court.
The aspiring local rap artist is alleged to have started the blaze with a jerry can and box of matches while his mother was home.
The Mayes Avenue unit was engulfed by flames and had its roof collapse over the weekend (Sunday November 1).
Despite earlier reports by other local news outlets, it has now been confirmed there was no baby or young family living in the unit.
The fire department was called to the scene at 5.45pm.
According to a Logan House Fire Support Network spokesperson mother and son were the sole occupants, and were accounted for on scene with no injuries.
The adjoining unit also caught fire, however there was little damage and the occupants, an 80 year old woman and her 50 year old son, will be able to return home shortly.
The court was told, the 21 year old Kingston man was already on probation for alleged drug offences and also has an outstanding unlawful wounding charge.
He was granted bail to live with his grandparents at Tallai, on the Gold Coast. He must submit to a curfew, drug testing, and report to police twice a week.
His charge will be mentioned in Beenleigh again on January 20.
The Kingston man’s mother is currently in emergency housing.
