Logan City Council has revealed its plans to transform Logan Central into a cultural precinct, complete with multi-cultural eateries, new state government offices, residential units, and a new cultural centre.

The study area for the Precinct Plan covers nearly 40 hectares of Logan Central. It includes the Council Administration Centre, Logan Art Gallery, Logan Central Community Centre, Logan Gardens, Logan Brothers Leagues Club, the Logan entertainment area and state agency buildings and facilities for the Queensland Police and the Department of Main Roads.

The council document said “The key aims for the design of the new precinct is to provide a more open, identifiable, and active space. One that is cohesive, beautiful, and recognized as one of Australia’s exemplary urban spaces.”

The $5 million redevelopment will include moving the recently renovated memorial garden and cenotaph closer to the front of the Logan City council building.

According to council plans, the memorial will form part of the new Wembley Rd plaza with council chambers linked to the Logan Entertainment Centre with tree-lined paths.

The plans have a 30 year time horizon and were released ahead of this month’s Logan City Council meeting; where it was decided to undergo public consultation.

The council plans include a $5 million new ring road to run around Logan Gardens park and link Democracy Way to Civic Parade, as well as 275 dwellings and 338 car parks.

Two lots of traffic lights will be installed on Jacaranda Ave at the intersections of Democracy Way and Civic Parade.

Lights at Wembley Rd will also be moved to allow a new main entrance to the precinct.

Allied health, commercial offices and educational businesses will relocate to the existing Art Gallery precinct. The existing Art Gallery precinct is expected to be moved to a new building behind the Logan Entertainment Centre.

The new $50 million building, seven storeys high, will fit 200 employees for both state and council. This will be located where the PCYC currently is, which is moving to Cronulla Park, at Underwood.

The council report does not list exact costs, but rather gives guidance dollar figures for key projects.
