Logan City Council has adopted a new action plan aimed at creating a safer city for locals, and tearing down the ‘public perceptions of crime’ and ‘the fear of crime’.
The City of Logan: Safe City Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2025 will guide the development and delivery of community safety initiatives for the next five years.
Developed through research and community consultation, the strategy and action plan will focus on four key areas including:
- Research and planning
- Community empowerment
- Creating safer places and spaces
- Partnerships with police, other government organisations, non- government organisations and the community.
City lifestyle committee chairperson, Councillor Laurie Koranski, said Council was committed to addressing public perceptions of crime through proactive programs.
“Time and again, crime and the fear of crime are cited as a major issue for our residents and businesses,” Cr Koranski said.
“That’s why Council has taken a targeted approach to identify and address safety issues.
“The strategy and action plan involves not just Council, but partner organisations such as the Queensland Police Service, community groups and the general public working together towards solutions to reduce crime in our city.
“I’d like to thank everyone who shaped this document, particularly members of the public whose insights proved invaluable.”
