Cr Power has told MyNewsFeed.com.au that he was pleased with infrastructure spends and the delivery of election promises announced in the budget. In particular, an investment of tens of millions of dollars in the city’s schools and TAFE, $1 billion on the M1 and $500 million to extend the busway from Eight Mile Plains.

“I’m quite excited,” he said. “We’re a very young city, so I know the investment in our youth is going to be a big benefit.

“They’re (state government) spending at least $50 million on schools around Logan and also the TAFE program, which is a big uptake for our youth. That’s extensive when they continue to provide that free service for our youth.

“I’m really delighted with this budget and the announcement that they’re putting aside $500 million for the busway. That’s huge for the eastern side of Logan. We’ve been waiting for that for a long, long time and this government is going to deliver by the look of it.”

Cr Power said people had been pushing for the busway extension for years as it would ease traffic on the motorway and he believed house prices on the eastern side of the M1 will more than likely skyrocket as a result of the extension.

The mayor added that the Mt Lindesay Highway getting another $10 million was also a positive commitment.
