From this weekend, if you enter New South Wales from the Darling Downs, you’ll need to complete a travel declaration to get back into Queensland unless you are considered part of the regular border zone traffic.
Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young says the declaration would need to be made up to 72 hours prior to travelling to Queensland.
“The travel declaration needs to be made close to your travel, to ensure it reflects the most up-to-date advice,” she said.
“Things can change quickly with COVID-19 – we’ve seen it time and time again, especially with the evolving situation in Victoria, so travellers will need to check the latest restrictions before travelling.”
Dr Young says a cross-border zone would be re-established so those living close to the QLD-NSW border wouldn’t need to complete multiple travel declarations.
“We know there are a number of people living close to the Queensland border who either work or access important services regularly in Queensland or in northern New South Wales,
“We want to ensure they can continue to do that without making a declaration each time they cross the border, so we’ve established a border zone to cater for those situations.”
The new system will come into force from 1am Saturday June 19. Details will be available on the Queensland Government website.
The new travel declaration will work similar to Victoria’s traffic light method.
A green, amber or red pass will be issued, depending on whether they’ve been to a covid declared hotspot or an exposure site in another state.
Meantime new travel restrictions will come into effect with Sydney tomorrow, which has recorded a couple of local cases.
Anyone who’s been to an exposure site and arrives in Queensland, will be forced to go into hotel quarantine.
