Bravehearts founder slams release of violent paedophile

Logan City’s own child protection advocate Hetty Johnston has criticised the release from prison of notorious paedophile Douglas Jackway.

At one time, 44-year old Jackway was a prime suspect in the murder of Queensland schoolboy Daniel Morcombe.

The convicted criminal has been let out of jail on a 15-year supervision order. He will live in the Wacol precinct that houses sex offenders and will be subject to a curfew and be monitored via a GPS tracker.

Bravehearts founder Johnston says he shouldn’t be allowed out at all because it sends the wrong messages.

“Where he should be is in jail,” she said. “And he should be there until his last breath.

“He is one of those small number of sex offenders and violent offenders who should just never be released and whose civil rights have become defunct.”
