Cr Karen Murphy.

Mount Warren Park locals have had enough of ongoing crime, and have called for Logan City Council to install more CCTV cameras after a recent spate of ‘sickening white pride ’and ‘horrific Nazi’ graffiti in the region.

At today’s Logan City Council meeting, councillor Karen Murphy presented a local petition and said she hears the locals’ concerns loud and clear.

“I received the petition from a Division 12 resident Belinda Thompson,” Cr Murphy said.

“On behalf of the members of the Mount Warren Park community, containing 122 signatures…I fully support this petition.

“The petition requests that Council investigates the installation of CCTV cameras and equipment in Mount Warren Park.

“I will be fighting tooth and nail within Council and other stakeholders to secure funding. I’m not going to promise you anything but I can guarantee that I will work hard each and every day to consult and secure funds to make our community a safer place to live and work.”

This comes after a recent rise in crime in Mount Warren Park, including ‘sickening white pride’ and ‘horrific Nazi’ graffiti that was reported on at the beginning of the month.

A concerned member of the Mount Warren Park community, said she was on a morning walk with her husband late February when she spotted the vandalism at Noyer Park.

“I was appalled to see the vandalism of our lovely park which is often vandalised and felt deeply for those who lost loved ones in that horrific Nazi period,” she said.

The vandalism included the Nazi symbol, a picture of male genitals with a Nazi symbol on it, and the words ‘White pride’ next to another Nazi symbol.

“I am all for more (CCTV) cameras,” the concerned resident said.

Councillor Laurie Koranski.

Councillor Laurie Koranski also addressed the recent increase in nazi vandalism in Logan City, while holding her families ‘precious’ copy of the Schindlers List.

“Over the course of the past weekend I was contacted by numerous residents who were outraged to discover bus shelters, paths, and signs had been tagged by anti-semitic messages and symbols,” Cr Koranski said.

“Sadly this sickening vandalism extended to include Cr Murphy and Cr Hall’s electorates also.

“Our community has not forgotten….hand on heart we have not and will not forget the travesties of the past.”
