Call for witnesses to Kingston explosion

Police investigators are calling for witnesses who heard or saw an explosion at Kingston yesterday, to come forward.

Police were called to a Jacaranda Avenue address at 5.30pm yesterday, after an improvised explosive device detonated seriously injuring 52-year-old Andrew Doyle.

Mr Doyle underwent surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital last night, for serious shrapnel and flesh wound injuries.

Mr Doyle’s partner was home at the time of the explosion and was uninjured.

The explosion caused damage to the dwelling, fencing and a vehicle nearby.

Neighbour Michael Orme says the explosion was so loud it woke him up.

Detectives, forensic officers and other specialist units attended the scene today to conduct investigations.

Early reports suggest it was a home made explosive device, with the investigation to look into the contents of the home made explosive device, as well as how the device was located at the dwelling.

Cameras at the home, are set to form an integral part of the investigation.

While multiple sounds were reportedly heard by neighbours, police investigations revealed that there was only one explosion.

Detective Acting Inspector Nicola Brown says police are appealing to the public for information.

Detective Acting Inspector Brown says the incident is concerning to police.

“It is of great concern to us, that something like this has happened within our community.

“We do believe that it could possibly be a targeted event and we don’t believe there is any threat to the wider community, in relation to this incident.

“We will canvas all of our intelligence holdings, any community reports, in relation to noises and disturbances, in that particular area, relevant to this investigation.”
