As the City of Logan’s population pushes towards half a million people, Logan City Council is looking ahead to critical road network improvements.
Improved connections are needed to move residents between home, work, study and recreation.
Two of the city’s biggest projects in the coming years are a new elevated interchange to upgrade the intersection of Middle and Teviot roads at Greenbank and the widening of Loganlea Rd at Meadowbrook.
The city’s infrastructure needs are being highlighted as part of Council’s ‘Stand up for Logan’ program in the lead-up to the Federal election on Saturday, May 21.
Mayor Darren Power says the city’s rapidly growing population demands the timely delivery of important projects to ensure liveability, economic growth and sustainability.
“The Greenbank interchange is essential to tackle traffic congestion as the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area grows and more people move into the area.”
“It’s a complex solution including a new bridge over the railway line and an elevated interchange at the Middle Rd/Teviot Rd intersection.”
“People are frustrated with this section of road because the current roundabout is already at capacity.”
Council will build a larger two-lane roundabout as an interim solution as part of a $40 million upgrade of Teviot Rd due to start in 2022/2023.
The elevated interchange is a longer-term solution, planned for delivery in the 2030s.
Council also plans to widen Loganlea Rd between the Logan Motorway and Nujooloo Rd to cater for existing congestion and projected growth.
Cr Power says,“We need to improve traffic flow in this key business and health hub, which is home to the Logan Hospital, TAFE and Griffith University –it’s so important to get it right.”
“These facilities are large employers and also welcome many visitors each day, making the area perfect for walking and cycling opportunities in conjunction with the nearby Loganlea train station.”
“The project design factors in all of this to future-proof this important corridor.”
The Australian Labor Party committed $22.5 million to the Loganlea Rd upgrade last month but Mayor Power says Federal election candidates also need to help out.
“We need candidates who’ll stand up for Logan and I encourage voters to look carefully at what is promised to make sure their vote counts on polling day later this month.”
“This is our moment to get the important infrastructure needed for the City of Logan.”
