Federal MP Bert Van Manen standing again in Forde

The Federal Member for Forde,  Bert van Manen says his desire to continue to serve his community has motivated him to  seek a fifth term in office.

“When I was first elected to federal parliament in 2010 it was on  a platform of local issues.”

“Twelve years later, and in my fifth election campaign, that has  not changed.”

“I’ve lived almost my entire life in the Logan area, and I’m proud  of that, and that’s why I want to keep serving my community.”

“The people of Logan and northern Gold Coast are not just my  constituents, many of them are life-long friends, and that’s why I  care so much.”

Mr Van Manen was first elected in 2010, and was re-elected in  2013, 2016 and 2019.

He currently holds the seat of Forde for the Liberal National  Party and is the Chief Government Whip.

57-year-old Mr Van Manen says he has unfinished business in  Forde.

“I’ve been campaigning to get the M1 upgraded since I first  came to office.”

“It is getting there, with work on Exits 41 and 45, and the  upgrades to Daisy Hill, but more improvements are needed,  such as Exit 38.

“Work is underway on the Mt Lindesay Highway, but there’s a  long way to go and I want to see those upgrades continue.”

“I’ll be fighting for funds to continue these works and more.”

Mr Van Manen says the recent floods demonstrated the  strength of the local community, especially in times of adversity.

“The way everyone came together to help each other was  inspiring.”

“I’ve lived through many floods in this area, and I’ve seen the  damage they can cause, that’s why I am determined to ensure  homes that have been built in the wrong locations are resumed,  and those families don’t have to experience that again.”

“That’s why I joined my Queensland colleagues in convincing  the Prime Minister not to walk away from the state government  flood recovery plan.”

Mr Van Manen says he will be announcing a number of key  community projects he has been fighting for in the coming  weeks.

“I am constantly in touch with the community, through my  Mobile Offices, coffee catch-ups, Community Forums and at  numerous official events.”

“I’m listening to their concerns and their ideas to make this area even better.”

“I will continue fighting for improved roads, community and  sporting facilities, and other projects for my constituents.”

“I invite anyone in Forde to get in touch, I’m always happy to  hear their thoughts.”

“And, I urge anyone who is not currently enrolled to vote, to go  to the Australian Electoral Commission website (www.aec.gov.au) and register today, before it is too late.”
