Logan City’s class of 2020 graduates today, and a few local Logan City identities have spoken out to congratulate the students during such a tough year.
At this month’s council meeting Cr Miriam Stemp said she was proud of the graduating students.
“With my son Michael is graduating from grade 12…I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the entire year 12 cohort across our city,” Cr Stemp said.
“This cohort will be remembered for their resilience, empathy, determination, and ability to adapt to change.
“Not only are they the first year to be ranked under the Queensland ATAR system, which has proven to be challenging in itself, but they have done this in a worldwide pandemic.
“They’ve had to adapt quickly to the challenges of remote learning, changing social norms, cancellation of sports and special events, and the rescheduling of exams and assessments to make it through to this day.
“I hope they can all look proudly upon their achievements during a year of so much uncertainty and I would like to wish each and every one of them all the success with whatever path they choose.”
Springwood MP Mick De Brenni took to social media to congratulate the year 12 students.
“What a year for Queensland’s Year 12s – the Year of Firsts,” he said.
“They were the first to start prep and high school in Year 7.
“They were also the first to sit ATAR exams in Queensland and finish year 12 during a pandemic.
“Congratulations to the class of 2020”
Member for Forde Bert van Manen said he was also proud of Logan City year 12 students.
“Logan’s year 12s have shown an incredible amount of fortitude and resilience this year,” he said.
“I and everyone in our community are incredibly proud of the Class of 2020 and their achievements this year.”
Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick also wanted to congratulate the graduates.
“2020 has been a year like no other, and I am so proud of all you have achieved,” he said.
“The final year of high school is always tough, but to shine through in a global pandemic is remarkable indeed.
“Enjoy your celebrations, you have earned it.”
Member for Logan Linus Power said the year 12 students finally ‘did it’.
“A massive congratulations to all graduating seniors in Logan – you have made it through a year like no other. Your persistence and resilience during a difficult school year proves you are ready to fight any challenges you may face,” he said.
“Enjoy and celebrate safely – you have definitely earned it.”
