According to Logan City Councillor Lisa Bradley, International Women’s Day is a time to ‘celebrate Women’s achievements and #Choosetochallenge gender bias and inequality’.

“For me, it’s (International Women’s Day) a reminder every woman has the opportunity to be their true authentic self and pursue their goals whatever they may be,” Cr Bradley said.

“I believe women have the right to pursue whatever their heart desires, anything they dream their life to be through strength, determination and persistence.

“I choose to celebrate International Women’s Day every day by focusing on equality and bringing awareness to the achievements of women.”

Cr Bradley said as a woman who has always worked in male-dominated environments, she offers her utmost support and encouragement to young women who are challenging stereotypes and pushing to become the best version of themselves.

“If I can do it, anyone can,” she said.

“I have always encouraged my children to pursue careers that fulfills their passions.

“As a mother, I must acknowledge how proud I am of my daughters for their achievements and roles in forging gender parity. My youngest is about to sit her medicine entrance examination.

“One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received was from my mother. She always believed if someone says she can’t do something, challenge that belief, and be more determined to succeed at it.

“Her words have shaped and motivated me throughout my own life and career.

“My final piece of advice is to follow your dreams, your core values and do whatever makes you feel authentically you.”
