Logan City residents are going green, and not with envy. Logan City Council is gearing up for the roll out of a green waste bin service for locals, and nearly 4,000 residents have already signed up.
The optional fortnightly service will offer Logan City locals, who may not have access to a trailer or ute, the chance to remove green waste from their homes.
Complete with a lime-green lid, the large bins can be filled with various garden waste that can be recycled into compost, such as prunings, palm fronds, weeds, leaves and grass clippings.
The council initiative will be starting next year, July 1, and will cost interested residents less than $1 a week for a 240 litre green bin, with the option of upgrading their green bin to a 360-litre bin for $76 per year.
Residents across all 12 divisions of Logan are really getting on board with the new initiative, with those in Rochedale South, Shailer Park and Regents Park being the most popular for starting the green bin.
Strong interest has also come from those who live in Cornubia, Springwood, Crestmead and Marsden.
Deputy Mayor of Logan City Council, Jon Raven, is encouraging locals to sign up to the new service as soon as possible, so as to ensure sufficient bins and collection trucks are available for next year.
“We expect many of our green-thumbed residents to register their interest in this exciting new service,” Councillor Raven said.
“Council will contact those interested residents in the New Year to organise registration and bin delivery.”
Green waste bins will be collected on alternate weeks to yellow recycling bins. The introduction of new green waste bins will have no impact on existing waste and recycling collections.
