Logan local Caitlyn Peck is already an artistic roller skating star in Australia and she’s well on her way to becoming a global star.
The 18 year old Waterford West woman started skating in 2012 and her first competition was in 2013.
By 2015 she was skating at a national level and won her first international gold medal in 2017 as part of the Australian team in the Oceania Championships in Brisbane, where she competed against skaters from New Zealand and China.
Her parents, Tammy and Greg have been involved in the sport since the 1980’s.
They competed together internationally as a couple and retired from competition in 1998.
Caitlyn credits her mum and dad for being the driving force behind her success.
Currently Caitlyn trains at various indoor and outdoor locations.
On top of this, she’s a part time worker and is in her first year of a Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology at the University of Queensland.
Her father Greg says, “Caitlyn is very industrious, highly motivated and disciplined. She truly is the best child and student anyone in our positions as parents and coaches could ask for, although technically now an adult.”
This year, Caitlyn has won every competition including the State Championships in both of the disciplines she competes in (Figures – a technical only competition and Solo Dance – a combination of technical aspects combined with choreography and music which is like ballroom dancing on skates and similar to ice skating).
Caitlyn was also awarded 2022 Queensland Junior skater of the year and she will be flying to Germany with her parents in August to compete against the world’s best skaters in the World Skate Cup final.
The remaining semi finals are currently being held in various regions across the world, and the top representatives from those competing countries will line up against each other and Caitlyn in August before the World Championships in Argentina in late October.
