A man who was shot and killed by police on the Logan Motorway, on the outskirts of the city, had been the subject of a counter-terrorism investigation.

The man has been identified as 22-year-old Raghe Abdi, from Calamvale.

Officers were called to the Motorway at Drewvale early this morning, after reports a 22 year old was walking in and among the traffic.

When they arrived, the man allegedly came at officers with a knife, before he was fatally shot.

At a media conference this afternoon,  Deputy Federal Police Commissioner  Ian McCartney provided some of the details involving the 22 year old’s history

He said “The man had been on bail and had to wear a tracking device.

“There’s been no specific and on-going threat  identified in relation to the matter, with the national terrorism threat level remaining probable.

It’s understood,  Abdi was granted bail in September after being held for 414 days on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice and failing to comply with an order.

He was initially arrested by counter-terrorism police in May 2019 while trying to board a flight to Somalia with a one-way ticket.

At the time officers were concerned he was going to Somalia to fight for ISIS in that country’s civil war.

It’s alleged he tried to pervert the course of justice by attempting to get his mother and a friend to withdraw their statements about him in June and July last year.

Abdi was also charged with failing to provide his phone access information to police on June 14.
