Underwood, Logan City, has moved up a gear with works kicking off on a new $4 million Logan Road bike lane project, which is set to create local jobs.

It’s a part of the state government’s $50 billion infrastructure guarantee and COVID-19 economic recovery plan.

The project will see a 2.6km bike lane built along Logan Road Underwood and will create 12 jobs in construction and traffic management.

Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman said the upgrade would extend existing on-road bike lanes along Logan Road further to Levington Road and provide a safe connection for bike riders to the popular southside Veloway.

“We are making sure our bike riders can get to where they’re going safer and faster,” Ms Fentiman said.

“And our investment in construction is ensuring we continue to create more local jobs.

“Once complete there will be 4.1km of dedicated bike lanes along Logan Road so families and commuters can safely ride to local shops and the nearby veloway, which runs all the way to the Brisbane CBD.

“COVID-19 has been a huge challenge for our community, but one of the bright spots has been seeing more families take up bike riding, making this an ideal upgrade not only for them but also for local jobs.”

Member for Toohey Peter Russo said the new lanes would be ready for use towards the end of the year, weather and construction conditions permitting.

“It joins other major bike projects like the $45 million veloway project Stage E and plans to complete the missing link of the veloway at MacGregor between Laver and Veivers streets, to create a seamless, safe bike connection from Logan to Brisbane,” Mr Russo said.

TMR has worked closely with the community on the upgrade, and in response to concerns about road safety, they’ll remove the northbound right turn from Logan Road to Bambara Street and extend the northbound right-turn lane at the Harris Road intersection.
