Tamborine Mountain Rugby Union Club is one of 53 local clubs and community groups across Queensland to get a grassroots boost from St George Bank.
The group has been awarded a $3500 boost to purchase equipment for its first ever junior girls team.
In 2020 the club lost it’s entire player base due to the COVID pandemic as many young, aspiring football players were not able to play. This year the club has rebuilt from the ground up and now has 75 members.
The all-inclusive club seeks to promote diversity in footy and is passionate about women taking part in competitions like the upcoming Gold Coast District tournament. With over half of the members of the club, female players, the St.George Footy Grant will allow Tamborine Mountain Rugby Union Club to purchase much-needed equipment for the new junior girls team.
Teaming up with football partners across four codes, including the St.George Queensland Reds Women’s team, St.George awarded it’s biggest commitment yet of $250,000 through this year’s Footy Grants program. Over $110,000 went to 53 local Queensland footy clubs and community members.
St.George Queensland Reds (Women’s team), Vice-Captain, Lucy Lockhart says:
“We are proud to partner with St.George again to continue to grow footy at a grassroots level and help break down barriers to participation for anyone who wants to get involved. These grants will make a real difference for communities across Queensland.”
